Makerere University Medical School
The partnership between the ICA Foundation and the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology at Makerere University and Mulago National Referral and Teaching Hospital in Kampala, Uganda began in 2007. To date, 4.200 LNG IUS have been donated. LNG IUS is urgently needed in Uganda because of it’s contraceptive efficacy. Fertility rate in Uganda is among the highest in the world. The team at Makerere/Mulago ensures continous training of family planning providers. The network of Family Planning centres also ensures continuos use of LNG IUS.
Reproductive Health Uganda
Reproductive Health Uganda is affiliated to the International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF). RHU is a volunteer owned and led organisation that started work in Uganda in 1957. Currently RHU operates 17 branches spread in all the sub-regions of Uganda. RHU has made significant contribution in the area of Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR). Many of these efforts have redefined the SRHR landscape in Uganda. RHU has a long-standing record of providing quality reproductive health services that include safe motherhood, family planning, HIV/AIDS, adolescent interventions, and advocacy in Uganda. Reproductive Health Uganda (RHU) located in Kampala, is providing free services to vulnerable clients (inability to pay, young people, persons with disability) at outreach posts.
The first LNG IUS donation of 400 units was delivered to RHU in February 2022.
