ANFAM (ESAR)

ANFAM was founded in 1989 and has represented ESAR Foundation in Nicaragua since 2014. ANFAM is a Nicaraguan non-profit NGO whose purpose is “to contribute to the exercise of women’s rights by fostering a culture of peace with an emphasis on sexual and reproductive rights, on the right to a life free of violence, and to gender equality through the implementation of policies concerning the execution of programs and projects that assure their sustainability.” ANFAM’s main program is constituted by the centers for women called IXCHEN. Their specific objective is “to assure high-quality humanized specialized, and comprehensive sexual and reproductive health services for our users from a human rights, gender and a generational standpoint”. For 27 years, IXCHEN has offered sexual and reproductive care to 1.5 million women (through the promotion of contraceptive methods, Papanicolau tests, the treatment of early-stage lesions of cervical uterine cancer and prevention of breast cancer, and safe motherhood as a way to prevent maternal mortality and other medical conditions). The partnership with ANFAM began in the fall of 2017, when the initial 30 units were shipped to Managua and until today, they have received in total 780 units of LNG IUS.
