AMOR Afghanistan Health Organization / AmeriCares

AmeriCares is an international disaster relief and humanitarian aid organization that provides immediate response to emergency medical needs and supports long-term humanitarian assistance programs around the world. As part of a global collaboration with the ICA Foundation, AmeriCares and its partner, American Medical Overseas Relief (AMOR), work together to operate the Afshar Hospital in Kabul, Afghanistan. A primary focus of Afshar Hospital is maternal and child care. The maternity department is staffed with three additional OB-GYN specialists, midwives and nurses. Each month this team delivers between 130 and 150 babies and provides pre- and post-operative care to approximately 20 C-Section patients. They also provide education to the new mothers on nutrition, breast feeding, family planning, birth spacing, and various other health topics.
