Jhpiego
Jhpiego is an international, non-profit health organization affiliated with The Johns Hopkins University. For 40 years and in over 155 countries, Jhpiego has worked to prevent the needless deaths of women and their families. Jhpiego is dedicated to improving the health of women and families in developing countries. From our origins as technical experts in reproductive, maternal and child health, Jhpiego has grown to embrace new challenges, including HIV/AIDS, malaria, cervical cancer prevention and urban health — reflecting the increasing interconnectedness of global health. We take the latest knowledge in science and technology, apply it to develop practical, low-cost health care solutions and make them available from home to hospital, village to city. The ICA Foundation began working with Jhpiego in Zambia in February 2017, starting with an additional shipment of 500 units which routed through the University Teaching Hospital in Lusaka, and until today, in total 3.600 LNG IUS products have been donated.
University Teaching Hospital Lusaka
ICA Foundation and Lusaka University Teaching Hospital (UTH) partnered to make LNG IUS more available to women visiting the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology with a total donation of 1.500 LNG IUS since September 2011. Alongside community sensitization and demand-creation activities, UTH has integrated LNG IUS into postpartum family planning services within the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. The University Teaching Hospital is the largest hospital in Zambia and is the principal medical training institution for medical students, interns, and postgraduate doctors, and also trains nurses and clinical officers.
Women Care Global / SFH / ZAGO
WomanCare Global provides access to high-quality, innovative and affordable reproductive healthcare technologies for contraception, fertility and pregnancy management. WomanCare Global partners with the clinics in Zambia and will distribute the LNG IUS via public and private sector clinics. The objective of this partnership with ICA is to increase access to LNG IUS, where unmet need for family planning remains high at nearly 27%. Since program’s initiation, in total 2.600 LNG IUS products have been donated.
Marie Stopes International Zambia (MSZ)
Marie Stopes Zambia is a partnership program of Marie Stopes International, one of the largest providers of sexual and reproductive health services world-wide. It has a presence in over 40 countries across the globe. Based on current demand of long-term reversible methods, it is anticipated that 40% of the donation will be delivered to rural areas. In the Spring of 2023, MSI Zambia transitioned from the ICA Foundation donation to the national hormonal IUS supply chain.
